Arsene Houssaye said “Tell me whom you love and I will tell you who you are.” Who I am is a person who loves to eat, which will probably be obvious from the fact that my food list is longer than the other lists on this page. Whom/what I love is probably not as obvious, though, so here is some info about the people and things that bring me to my happy place.
Japanese Cuisine: I pretty much love everything listed here. Hopefully I can either find some good recipes or a great restaurant in my new town to satisfy my cravings. I could really use some salt ramen in my life right now. (P.S. If you’re reading this from Okinawa, Buddy and I wouldn’t say no to being sent some boxes of Coco Curry. *hint, hint*)
Pioneer Woman: Ree’s recipes are the ultimate in comfort food. Her creamy mashed potatoes are a staple at Thanksgiving dinner and Buddy requests her penne a la Betsy a couple times a month. Also, her baked french toast is perfect for guests, brunch, dessert, whatever. Seriously, stop reading this sentence and just go make something of hers right now.
Rolo Cookies: These cookies from Two Peas and their Pod are quite possibly Buddy’s favorite cookies in the world. I made them for friends once and they thought they were so good, they ate them for breakfast.
Skinny Taste: This is my go-to food blog for healthy and delicious meals when I need to balance out the yummy goodness from one of Ree’s recipes. I’m not sure of the exact ratio, but you’ll probably need to make three Skinny Taste meals for every one of Pioneer Woman’s just to break even.
Taco Rice: This dish is a must-have for anyone who’s ever lived in Okinawa or knows someone who did. Quick, delicious, and you can pretend it’s healthy? Yes, please!
Zuppa Toscana: One of my dear friends clued me in to this recipe from Gimme Some Oven and I will love her forever for it. I swear I make this every other week, even in the summer when it is definitely NOT soup weather. It is just that incredible.
Craft Artsy Myrachael: My craft muse, my BFF, my aesthetics consultant. She turns my vague home decorating ideas into craft artsy miracles. Follow her blog and she can help you beautify your world!
Fitness Blender: Daniel and Kelli account for about 90% of the reason why I’ve started incorporating fitness and (sometimes) healthy eating into my lifestyle. Their videos are the only things I use for exercise because I love them so much. If you’ve ever mentioned the word “workout” in front of me, then I’ve probably already talked your ear off about them, so I’ll stop now.
The Rock and Taylor Swift: I love them. There’s simply no other way to say it. What I appreciate the most about these two is their humility. I’m also impressed by the way they can take a step back and see themselves as other people see them. They don’t complain about having to be role models or get mad when cameras are always in their faces. They’re grateful for their blessings and do what they can to give back. They’re like Spider-Man, wielding their great power with great responsibility.
Weights and Bakes: My soulie (friend soulmate) writes this blog, and she’s basically the remaining 10% of the reason why I work out now. She’s an inspiring working mama, a wonder in the kitchen, and my fitness guru. Check her out!
Hawaii: I was born here, got married here, and lots of people I love live here. I highly recommend visiting if you ever get the chance.
Notre Dame: My heart will forever love thee. You know that awkward phase that most people go through in high school? Yeah, I went through that here instead. But it was all worth it, and I still consider it a sanctuary for me.
Okinawa: This is the closest thing to “home” that I had as a military brat. I went to middle school and high school here and, thanks to Buddy’s time in the Air Force, I was able to go back as a wife and mother. If I get to go back for a third time, you should come with me!
