Since it’s the start of a new year, I thought it might be good to revisit the question of why I write this blog. Actually, scratch that, I’m going to visit that question for the first time because I realized that I just jumped right into publishing posts without first taking the time to explain what I’m even doing here.
A huge part of the reason why I started this blog is because a bunch of people I love told me that I should. That might sound bad, but I’m an Asian woman and, true to stereotype, it’s a lot easier for me to do something for someone else than it is to do something for myself. Buddy, my soulie (friend soulmate), my BFF, and my maid of honor (four different people, not just one person with many titles) all suggested that I write a blog because they each felt like I had something valuable to share. Through my every day conversations with them, I began to realize that some of the things that I thought were well-known were actually pieces of information that were borne from my graduate studies, my work as a therapist, and/or my experiences growing up as a military brat and second generation Filipina. The things that I believed were common knowledge weren’t necessarily common at all, and this realization made me think about ways that I could share some of my thoughts on a larger scale.
When I was a stay at home mom I was constantly scouring other people’s blogs for information about everything related to babies and babyhood. In retrospect, what I was really searching for was someone to make me feel like I wasn’t alone in whatever situation I was going through. The information was wonderful, but it was the experience of feeling connected, of knowing that someone else was as weird as I was, that I was really hoping to gain.
That’s why I’ve chosen to share my blog publicly rather than keeping a personal journal – for those one, two, or twenty people who think or feel a little differently from everyone else and want to know there’s someone similar out there. I hope to share with them the randomness that is my mind, most likely on topics related to parenting, food, womanhood, not being an asshole, and anything else that makes me feel something deep in my gut.
So please join me at my metaphorical table while I dish out some brain food! Feel free to stay as long as you like 🙂
All of us has something valuable to share but only a few had a courage to write and learn. Thank you so much, this is insightful. ^_^

Thank you! It’s a little scary putting myself out there, but I’m learning to let go and have fun with it!

I think it’s great that you’re sharing your wisdom here. I also appreciate that your friends helped you realize something I think so many of us never do — that is, what we take for granted about ourselves is actually what sets us apart from others!
